County Durham and Darlington Firefighters spread extra holiday magic this year with their beloved Santa on Tour tradition.
On Wednesday, December 11 and Thursday, December 12, crews from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) whisked Santa around the community on a festive fire engine, delighting children and families at fire stations and local supermarkets.
The event, now in its fourth year, drew hundreds of families eager to catch a glimpse of Santa and experience the holiday cheer up close. Alongside the smiles and festive fun, the tour raised £321 for The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides essential support to active and retired firefighters across the UK.
For firefighter Connor McCabe, who helped organize the event, seeing the joy it brings makes it all worthwhile.
“This is one of the highlights of our year,” he said. “It’s amazing to see so many happy faces and to bring a little extra Christmas spirit to the communities we serve. We’re so grateful to everyone who came out and supported us and the charity.”

The Fire Fighters Charity offers services to help members of the fire community live healthier, happier lives, making the event’s impact all the more meaningful. “Every pound raised goes towards making a real difference in the lives of our firefighters and staff,” Connor added.
Beyond the festivities, CDDFRS is encouraging everyone to consider a meaningful holiday gift this season: a free Home Fire Safety Visit (HFSV).
These visits include practical tips on keeping families safe, free smoke alarm installations, and advice on planning escape routes in case of emergencies.
