Residents of Durham awoke to the sound of a police helicopter flying over the city this morning, December 10, after officers responded to an early-morning incident.

Durham Police have confirmed that they were called to a reported disturbance in the Lilac Avenue area just after 6 a.m. to deal with an incident involving one man.

The man was subsequently taken to hospital, though no further details about his condition have been released.

A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: "We were called to a disturbance at a house in Lilac Avenue just after 6am today.

"The incident involved one man who was taken to hospital."
