Newton Aycliffe to host disability friendly Christmas event

Organised by local charity All Disabilities Matter, the event will run this Saturday, December 7 from 10am to 3pm in the town centre and features activities tailored to ensure accessibility for everyone. 

The team from All Disabilities Matter are ready to welcome all residents to the winter wonderland this Saturday (Image: All Disabilities Matter) The Christmas experience includes a snow-filled village with thousands of twinkling lights, a hidden elf trail, and digital projection screens where visitors can see themselves dance alongside characters from popular films like Frozen.

At its heart is a Santa’s Grotto, where the former Great Aycliffe mayor Carl Robinson will be Santa, complete with festive decorations and a nativity scene.

Tony Beddard, chairman of All Disabilities Matter, said: "We’re thrilled to create a space where individuals with disabilities and their families can enjoy the magic of Christmas together.

"The feedback from our first event was amazing, and we’re looking forward to welcoming more visitors this weekend."

All Disabilities Matter is a volunteer-run charity offering year-round support for people with disabilities and their carers, including discos, mobile cinema screenings, and community support meetings.

The Winter Wonderland highlights the charity’s commitment to inclusion and so everyone can enjoy the festive season, whilst also providing an opportunity for the public to learn more about its work.
