Families have marked Fathers' Day with a fun run to raise money for charity.
The Ali Brownlee 5k and 2k races were staged at the Riverside Stadium on Sunday and continue to honour the memory of the popular broadcaster who commentated on his beloved Middlesbrough FC for over 30 years.
Organised by Jane Tomlinson’s Run For All, in partnership with Everyone Active and Middlesbrough Council, the runs saw participants of all ages and abilities line up on the start line to take on the distance together.
Providing a fundraising vehicle for charities is the primary objective of every Run For All event, ensuring that the money being raised by competitors stays local and supports the causes that need them most.
Participants have been encouraged to fundraise for a chosen charity or one of the events' partner charities; the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and the Great North Air Ambulance.
Starting at 10.15am outside the Riverside Stadium, the 5k route took runners along Windward Way, via Middlesbrough College and then onto Cleveland Street.
Runners made their way past the Transporter Bridge and along Vulcan Street before returning to the stadium for a thrilling finish.
Councillor Philippa Storey, Middlesbrough Deputy Mayor and Executive member for Culture & Education, said: “The Ali Brownlee 5k has established itself as a firm fixture on the region’s running calendar, and I’m delighted to see it going from strength to strength.
“It’s a fantastic event that appeals to everyone from leading club runners and experienced joggers to charity fund-raisers and those just looking to get in shape, and the numbers are growing every year.
“It’s also great to welcome back the 2k Fun Run which is always a huge hit with younger runners and family groups.”
