A man suspected of committing child sex offences is to appear at crown court.

James Wilson, of Malone Gardens, Birtley, near Chester-le-Street, has been charged with two offences following his arrest by police.

He has already appeared before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court and the proceedings against him have been adjourned.

Wilson, 46, is accused of an attempt to engage in sexual communication with a child and an attempt to cause a child to look at an image of sexual activity.

The case against him has been sent to Newcastle Crown Court and his next appearance is on July 1 for a plea and directions hearing.

He has been granted conditional bail until then.
