A County Durham academy has been forced to close its doors tomorrow as they say they have been impacted by plumbing issues at a nearby leisure centre.

Consett Academy have this evening warned parents that they will be closed tomorrow (June 4) to all students apart from those sitting exams due to issues with toilets at the nearby Consett Leisure Centre.

A Facebook post confirmed the closure earlier this evening stating it was "out of (their) control".

They wrote: "Late this evening we have received news that there has been an issue with the leisure centre toilets that has impacted our building and as a result we will be closed tomorrow for all students other than Y11/13 who have an exam and exam slam.

"I realise this is late but it is out of our control and would ask that this message is shared as much as possible.

"I will then provide an update tomorrow with plans for Wednesday but appreciate your support and patience with this matter."

Consett Leisure Centre also confirmed to their followers on social media that they will be closed this evening as well as tomorrow but have not yet specified the reason for the closure.

A statement on their Facebook page reads: "The leisure centre will remain closed tonight, this includes ALL activities.
