Drivers in and around County Durham and Darlington will have eight National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

And two of them is expected to cause delays of between 10 and 30 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that four closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

  • A19, from 8pm April 8 to 6am June 1, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A19 southbound, B1320 Peterlee to A179 Sheraton Interchange, carriageway closure for maintenance works.
  • A1(M), from 8pm May 6 to 6am June 15, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 61 to junction 62, contraflow, carriageway closure, lane closures for resurfacing works.
  • A66, from 8pm April 22 to 6am October 8, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Lingfield Point, lane closures for horticulture works.
  • A19, from 8pm September 18 2023 to 5.30pm February 25 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Cold Hesledon Interchange, carriageway and lane closures for maintenance works.
  • A167, from 8pm April 2 to 6am July 27, moderate delays (10-30 minutes): A1M northbound and southbound, junction 59 Newton Aycliffe Interchange, carriageway closures, lane closures, 24hr narrow lanes and speed restrictions for structural repairs.

And one more closure will begin over the next two weeks:

  • A66, from 6am May 28 to 6am June 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 West Appleby Horse Fair Embargo 2024 Area 14.
  • A1(M), from 8pm June 4 to 6am June 5, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1(M) northbound and southbound, junction 57 to junction 58, Lane closure for maintenance works.
  • A66, from 11pm June 6 to 6am June 7, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Blands Corner to Morton Palms, diversion route for Network Rail closure off network.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
