Fifteen County Durham and North East drivers have appeared in court in May - charged with speeding, no insurance, no licence and various other offences.

The drivers, who appeared at Peterlee and Teesside Magistrates' Courts, were fined and ordered to pay costs.

15 County Durham and North East drivers fined in court:

Gemma Abigail, 39, appeared before magistrates on Tuesday (May 14) where she pleased guilty to speeding on the A66 in Galley Bank, in Barnard Castle last October. Abigail, of Evesham Way, Billingham, was driving a 57-plate Audi when she was caught going over 70 miles per hour. She was ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £146 and landed with three points on her driving license.

Dennis Hughes, 77, of Thornton Close, Ludworth, Durham was in court charged with speeding. He was caught going more than 30mph on Station Road in Shotton Colliery and was fined £56, plus costs and a victim surcharge. His license was endorsed with three penalty points.

Rebecca Smithson, 34, of Park Avenue in Coxhoe was driving a 12-plate Peugot on Fair View in Burnhope when she was caught going over 30mph. She was fined £660, and will have to pay a £264 victim surcharge and £90 costs, a total of £1,014. She also had six points put on her license.

Stephen Davison, 46, of Gardenia Way, Billingham, was found guilty of failing to give the identity of a driver of a motor vehicle when requested between August 16 and September 25, 2023.

For this, he was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, ordered to pay costs of £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and his driving record was endorsed with six penalty points. 

Jack Sean Duffy, 26, of Bede Crescent, Washington, pleaded guilty to having a vehicle which did not meet the insurance requirements on November 9, 2022. He was fined £146, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £58, and ordered to pay costs of £100.

Adeniyi Bashir Ikuyajesin, 46, of Wilshire Place, Tom Raine Court, Darlington, pleaded guilty to keeping a vehicle which was unlicensed on April 4, 2023.

He was fined £40, ordered to pay vehicle excise back duty of £5, and ordered to pay costs of £100.

Michael Winn, 24, of Moorside Crescent, Fishburn, pleaded guilty to using a vehicle which was unlicensed.

He was fined £146, ordered to pay vehicle excise back duty of £31.67, and court costs of £85.

Joseph Hunter, 29, of West View, Murton, Seaham, was found guilty in his absence of keeping a vehicle which was unlicensed.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £55 and court costs of £100.

Darren Paul Dixon, 48, of Coverdale in Hemlington, Middlesbrough, admitted driving without a proper license in Acklam Road, Middlesbrough on August 31, 2023.

He was fined £40, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £16, and was ordered to pay costs of £85. His driving record was also endorsed with three points. 

Deborah Elburn, 57, of Westbourne Street in Stockton-On-Tees,, pleaded guilty to driving over the speed limit in Myton Way on September 2, 2023. She was fined £163, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £65, ordered to pay costs of £85, and got three points on her license.

Matthew Storey, 26, of High View in Ushaw Moor, Durham, admitted driving over the speed limit on the A66 (E) Surtees Bridge, Stockton-On-Tees on July 12, 2023.

He was fined £117, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £46, and ordered to pay costs of £85.

His driving record was also endorsed with three points. 

Joseph Graham Telford, 29, of Pemberton Avenue, The Grove, Durham, admitted using a motor vehicle, specifically a Land Rover SV59MJO, on Newport Road, without insurance on August 31, 2023.

He was fined £230, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £92, ordered to pay costs of £85, and got six points on his license. 

Albert Radici, 36, of Straker Street, Hartlepool, was found guilty of using a motor vehicle, a VW  without insurance on March 1, 2023 and driving without a license.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, ordered to pay costs of £90 and disqualified from driving for six months.

Georgiana Roxanna Socariceanu, 29, of Rainham Close, Middlesbrough, admitted driving a motor vehicle while using a hand-held mobile telephone on June 28, 2023.

She was fined £40, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £16, ordered to pay costs of £85, and got six points on her license. 

Andrew John Vasey, 45, of York Road, Hartlepool, was found guilty in absence for failing to provide information about the nominated driver of a vehicle, specifically an Audi, alleged to have been involved in an offence between July 24, 2023, and August 28, 2023.

He was fined £660, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £264, ordered to pay costs of £85 and disqualified from driving for six months.
