Video shows the smoke continuing to rise from the site, with a stream of smoke coming from the roof of one building.
Our reporter Kayleigh Fraser, speaking from the scene, told us: “There’s a very very strong smell and it feels like it’s burning your throat.”
Locals have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke plume and stay away from the area.
A fire service spokesperson said: “We ask that businesses and properties in the area keep their doors and windows closed due to the level of smoke and urge them to stay away from the area. "
“The incident is ongoing and is likely to go on for some time.”
The recycling centre has been closed on Wednesday and will remain shut until the incident has concluded.
