An opening date for the new Starbucks coffee store in Darlington is set to come in the "near future", the chain has confirmed.

The drive-thru store, located in Faverdale just off the A68 out of town, was first approved in 2020 as part of a new development which included a Lidl and Home Bargains.

Both Lidl and Home Bargains have since opened but Starbucks remains under construction with signs urging prospective baristas to apply - yet no opening date has been announced.

Now, the company has said they look forward to opening in the "near future" and say more details will be shared closer to the time.

A Starbucks spokesperson said: “We look forward to bringing the Starbucks Experience to customers in Faverdale, Darlington in the near future and will be in touch once we have more specific plans to share.”

This latest outpost of the American coffee giant will be the first in Darlington since Starbucks Northgate closed its doors for good in September 2017.

The town centre location was open for ten years, and 15 jobs were lost after bosses made the "difficult decision" to close.

Currently, the closest Starbucks to Darlington is a drive thru at Bishop Auckland's retail park.
