A County Durham pub is closing its doors again less than six months after it reopened.

The Gate at Framwellgate Moor in Durham will close at the end of the month with the landlords putting the “tough decision” down to “financial matters”.

The pub, on Beech Road, only reopened on December 16 last year after more than 18 months closed, with many customers wishing the new owners good luck at the time.

But just over five months later it is again facing closure at the end of this month.

In a statement on Facebook, the landlords said: “We have sadly had to make the tough decision to leave the Gate at the end of the month. This decision is based of financial matters and feel like it is the best decision for us.

“We would like to thank everyone who has always supported us and helped us since been here.”

The watering hole will remain open Wednesday to Sunday until the end of the month when it closes for good.

It may feel like de ja vu for punters as the pub closed six months after a November 2021 reopening, in May 2022.

Then the owners rebranded the pub from its Happy Wanderer guise after it had been sat derelict for two years and invested a reported £450k refurbing the venue.
