A woman was attacked and robbed after a man asked to borrow a cigarette in South Shields.
The woman was walking with a friend in the early hours of February 22, when the pair were approached.
After asking for a cigarette, a man grabbed her handbag strap, dragged her to the floor, and fled with the bag.
Now, police have released a CCTV image of a man they want to track in connection with the attack, as he may be able to assist with their inquiries.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Can you help us trace this man as we investigate a report of robbery in South Shields?
"We received a report that at around 12.30am on Thursday, February 22, a male approached two women walking on Laygate.
"The man asked one of the women for a cigarette before grabbing the strap of her handbag when she refused.
"He then dragged her to the floor before fleeing the area on foot with the handbag which contained sentimental items and a small amount of cash.

"The victim was not injured but was left shaken by the incident.
"We are trying to trace the man pictured, who was in the area at the time the robbery is reported to have taken place and may be able to assist with enquiries.
"Those with information should contact us quoting crime reference 021126F/24."
