A man has died following a medical incident in a County Durham village yesterday.

Durham Constabulary confirmed they were called by the ambulance service to Middle Street in Blackhall Colliery shortly before 4.40pm on Sunday (April 24) after a man had collapsed.

They confirmed he is believed to have suffered a “medical episode” and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed the incident took place outside the Co-op.

Police have said there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: “Police were called by the ambulance service shortly before 4.40pm yesterday (April 28) after a man had collapsed in Middle Street, in Blackhall Colliery.

“The man is believed to have suffered a medical episode and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 4.30pm to reports of a medical incident outside the Co-op on Middle Street in Blackhall Colliery. 

"We sent a specialist paramedic, a clinical team leader and two emergency ambulance crews."
