Several armed police units "with guns" swarmed a Darlington street earlier this evening.
Pictures show the units on Eldon Street in Darlington at around 6:40pm and were parked up following an incident.
Three vans were seen parked along the street as eyewitnesses claim they saw police with guns pass by their homes as shouting was heard.
One resident, who did not want to be named, said: "There were armed police in the streets with guns. When I came out they told me to get inside because there were guns."
One witness, who wished to remain anonymous, has said they saw one person being arrested by police.
They added that they do not know the circumstances of the incident or what took place.
The circumstances of the incident are not yet known.
Durham Constabulary has been contacted for more information.
