A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a house fire in Thornaby on Tuesday (April 16), which has seen crime scene investigators and a cordon at the scene. 

Police attended a fire at a property on Queens Avenue in Thornaby, shortly before 6pm, following reports of flames and smoke coming from a top-floor window. 

Police cars and a cordon were erected at the scene, which has seen investigators remain at the scene on Wednesday (April 17).

Images from the scene show numerous police cars and fire investigation units, while the charred remains of the window can be seen, alongside a police cordon a the front of the property.

Other images of the scene show specialist officers standing in the charred-out remains of a room in the house, collecting evidence. 

Cleveland Police have confirmed that a 33-year-old man inside the property was arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and taken to James Cook University Hospital to receive treatment for smoke inhalation.

The man is now in police custody where he will be questioned by officer.
