A senior personal banking manager suspected of scamming over £150,000 from an elderly customer is to appear at Durham Crown Court.

Liam Schofield, 32, of Escallond Drive, Dalton-le-Dale, Seaham, was arrested and charged following an investigation by police. 

He appeared before Peterlee Magistrates’ Court earlier this month charged with two counts of theft and eight counts of fraud.

The alleged offences took place between April 2013 and May 2018 with the thefts totalling £91,934.30 and the frauds coming to over £58,000.

Papers submitted to the court state the suspected frauds relate to loans applied for in the victim’s name to Lloyds and Hitachi.

No pleas have been entered and he has been granted unconditional bail until he appears at Durham Crown Court on May 3.
