Areas of the North East, County Durham and North Yorkshire have been placed under a yellow weather warning as strong winds are expected to batter the region after Christmas. 

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for April 15 after forecasters predicted that gale-force winds will hit the region. 

The yellow weather warning covers Barnard Castle, Thirsk, Ripon and just avoids Darlington.

The warning is in place from 6.25am on Monday morning (April 15) until 10pm this evening.
