Police are appealing for footage after a driver suffered life-threatening injuries on the A689 in Wynyard.

The incident happened at 1.40pm on April 9 on the A689 eastbound and involved a grey-coloured BMW.

The North East Ambulance service was called to the scene and dispatched two ambulance crews, one clinical team leader, one doctor, a rapid response crew, and Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene.

The motorist was rushed to James Cook University Hospital with a serious head injury.

There were reports of the fire service removing the roof from the vehicle involved in the incident, which closed the road for more than an hour.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for information and any relevant dashcam footage following a single-vehicle collision in Wynyard.

"The collision occurred at around 1.40pm on Tuesday 9th April 2024 on the A689 eastbound at Wynyard and involved a grey-coloured BMW 3 Series.

"The driver suffered a serious head injury and remains at James Cook University Hospital in a life-threatening condition.

"Officers are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with relevant footage, to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 064242."

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson previously said: "We were called to a road traffic collision today (9 April) at 1.43pm in Wynyard, Hartlepool.
