The Met Office has predicted the North East will be hit by rain and heavy showers today.

The forecaster has said a band of rain will make its way eastwards across the region through the morning.

It added this will be followed by light winds which will become stronger later.

There will be a maximum temperature of 11 °C today, with the region expecting a minimum temperature of 0 °C tonight.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “A dry start for some, but a band of rain will make eastward progress through the morning and afternoon, followed by scattered heavy showers toward evening.

“Light winds initially, becoming generally strong later.

“Any lingering heavy showers soon clearing this evening, becoming largely dry, clear and cold overnight.

“Winds falling light, with patches of frost by dawn.”
