A man has been arrested in Tyneside after a pedestrian was left with serious injuries in a collision. 

Yesterday, (Friday, April 5), police were called to a collision between a car and a pedestrian near to the junction of Wark Avenue and Chollerford Avenue in West Chirton, North Shields.  

A silver Lexus IS300 had been travelling on the road when it has struck a male pedestrian.

Emergency services attended and the man – aged 21 – was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains there in a serious but stable condition.

A man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the report. He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Enquiries are ongoing into the full circumstances surrounding the collision, and police officers are now asking anybody who witnessed the incident to come forward.
