Police spent hours investigating a serious collision involving a motorcycle on the A1(M) near Darlington.

The incident took place at 10pm last night (April 5) and North Yorkshire Police, North Yorkshire Fire and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service were in attendance.

It happened on the A1(M) southbound between J58 at Darlington and J56 at Barton.

The road was closed and motorists were told that it would be several hours before the road re-opened again.

National Highways Yorkshire confirmed that the serious crash had involved a motorcyclist.

At 2.15am this morning (April 6) National Highways confirmed that investigations were still underway and that diversion routes were in place.

It took until 5.40am this morning for the road to be re-opened.
