It can be often difficult to find places to take your dogs while you're out for a walk or out for the day - with some cafes and restaurants not allowing our pet pooches inside.

However, there are still some amazing places out there that allow four-legged friends - and in some cases, encourage customers to bring their dogs.

As a mission to find some places that allow dogs, we have pieced together five places in County Durham that allow dogs inside.

Here is our list of five County Durham cafés and pubs that are dog friendly:

The Yurt Café

The Yurt Café, based at Raby Castle, is one such place that allows dogs to accompany their owners.

People can enjoy cakes, hot drinks, lunches and afternoon teas and can have their dog in tow.

The café uses local produce and has prided itself on having a relaxed atmosphere inside.

On its website, it is described as: "We embrace the richness of local produce with our field-to-fork philosophy. Our commitment to sourcing fresh, seasonal ingredients directly from nearby farms ensures that each dish is a celebration of the region’s flavours."

The Cosy Byre

Based on Medomsley Road in Consett, The Cosy Byre has been highlighted as one of the best places to take your dog in the region if you want to enjoy a hot drink, breakfast or lunch.

As well as accepting dogs, they're also accommodating to customers - as it is a 100 per cent gluten-free Café/tea Room that has dairy-free, vegetarian and vegan options.

One customer who enjoyed their visit said: "I have now visited The Cosy Byre three times with my Shih Tzu as it is a nice walk from home. The staff are great, the brownies are divine and they are very dog-friendly. We shall certainly be back again and again."

The Tees'pot

Based in Middleton in Teesdale, the Tees'pot accommodates dogs and also has some great cakes, according to reviews.

Ranked as an incredible cafe on TripAdvisor, the venue describes itself as "a very friendly café in the heart of Teesdale open daily from 9am-4pm serving breakfasts, lunches, home-made scones, soups, quiches, cakes & drinks.

"We offer vegan and gluten-free options too. We are dog friendly and an information centre too. We have extra seating upstairs, ideal for groups of walkers, cyclists & bikers. We aim to be much more than just a café."

And it's clear that people rank it highly, with one customer saying: "Great spot for drinks, snacks or as meal after a bracing walk on the Pennine Way. Friendly and attentive staff, a good range of dishes and all reasonably priced. See you next time we're in the area."

Already an amazing pub and restaurant in its own right, The South Causey Inn, near Stanley, is also dog friendly.
