A lamb has died after a barn fire at a farm near Darlington following a heat lamp falling on several hay bales on Thursday (April 4).
Emergency services were called to Manfield village at about 11.17pm, following reports of an agricultural fire in a barn containing livestock.
After arriving on the scene, fire crews from both Darlington and Richmond helped the farmers in removing animals from the area and dampening down the flames.
According to North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was caused by a heat lamp falling on hay bales, which saw the fire spread to parts of the barn.
During the incident, a lamb was killed, while there was also damage sustained to farm equipment and two hay bales were left burnt out.
Firefighters at the scene also treated two people for smoke inhalation - but they didn't require any further medical attention.
A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: "A crew from Richmond along with a crew from Darlington responded to a report of a fire in an agricultural barn containing livestock.
"On arrival of fire crews, farmers were working to remove the livestock from the barn.
