A person was hit by a train on the East Coast Mainline between Darlington and York, last night (Thursday, April,4).

Train operator LNER confirmed that a person was hit by a train, with services impacted as a result.

British Transport Police were called to Northallerton Railway Station after reports of a casualty on the mainline. 

The Northern Echo:

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Northallerton railway station just at around 8.15pm yesterday (4 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

A spokesperson for LNER announced the incident yesterday and said: “LNERUpdate it is with great sadness that we report that a person has been hit by a train between #Darlington and #York.

“Services are subject to delays when passing in the surrounding area.”

Since the incident, all lines have now reopened between York and Darlington, however, whilst services recover LNER has confirmed that trains may still be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 60 minutes.

LNER added: “Owing to the severity of the disruption today, you may use your existing ticket dated Thur 4 Apr for travel on Fri 5 Apr, in the same class of travel.”
