A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing in Middlesbrough this afternoon (Thursday, April 4).

Emergency services converged on Central Avenue in the Whinney Banks area of the town after reports of the incident at about 2.25pm. 

Several police vehicles were in attendance, as well as ambulances and an air ambulance.

A man was treated at the scene by paramedics, along with an air ambulance doctor, who accompanied the victim to the James Cook Hospital.

His injuries were described as "serious, but not life-threatening."

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "At 2.25pm on Thursday 4 April police were called to reports of a stabbing on Central Avenue in Middlesbrough.

"Officers, alongside air and land ambulance, attended to the scene and located a man with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

"He has been transported by land ambulance to James Cook University Hospital for treatment."

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "Our critical care team was activated at 2.32pm to reports of an assault in the Whinney Banks area of Middlesbrough.

"We had a doctor and paramedic on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 2.38pm. Our team worked alongside the North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) to assess and treat a patient and the patient was taken to hospital by a NEAS road crew, accompanied by our team."

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 2.23pm to an incident in Whinney Banks, Middlesbrough.

"We dispatched a clinical team leader, a double crewed ambulance and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance. One patient was taken to James Cook Hospital by road."
