A man has been arrested following a burglary at a North East pet cremation service.

Cleveland Police have confirmed they are investigating a burglary which took place at Roxy’s Rainbow on Greatham Street in Hartlepool on March 31.

They also confirmed a man, 38, has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

He remains in police custody.

A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: “Officers investigating a burglary at Roxy’s Rainbow on Greatham Street in Hartlepool on the evening of Sunday 31 March, have arrested a 38-year-old man on suspicion of burglary.

“He is currently in police custody where he will be questioned.”

Roxy’s Rainbow Pet Cremation Services confirmed their business had been broken into during the early hours of April 1.

The business said they were “devastated” after their ‘Roxy’s pot of gold’ donation jar was stolen from the premises.

A spokesperson for Roxy’s said: “We are absolutely devastated to say that in the early hours of this morning, roughly between 6-7 am, Roxy's Rainbow was broken into.

“As you all know Roxy's pot of gold is our own little charity we set up so we can help pets who need it.

“To take from something like that you are the lowest form of person there is.”

The business was set up in the wake of the owners losing their beloved dog, Roxy.

Their aim is to provide pet owners with the reassurance their pets are handled with “compassion” and “care.”
