A car crash on the A19 southbound near Sunderland caused a lane to be closed while it was recovered.

Emergency services responded to the incident between the A1231 and A183 at 6.30am.

When the police arrived they found that nobody was injured.

One lane on the southbound carriageway was temporarily closed while the vehicle was taken away.

The road has now fully re-opened and traffic is moving as normal.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Just after 6.30am this morning (Wednesday), police received a report of a one-vehicle collision on the A19 Southbound, between the junctions for the A1231 and A183 in Sunderland.

"Police attended the scene where, thankfully, no-one was found to be injured.

"One lane of the southbound carriageway was temporary closed to allow for the vehicle to be recovered, but has since re-opened to traffic."
