Police have released images of a man they want to trace after a reported assault at a North East hotel. 

It was reported that between 7.30pm and 7.50pm on Saturday, January 6, the male victim was talking to another man in The Gosforth Hotel, on Gosforth High Street, Newcastle.

For reasons yet to be established, the man then punched the victim on the left-hand side of his face, causing facial injuries which required hospital treatment.

The victim was later discharged.

Officers are investigating the report and have today (Tuesday, March 2) released an image of a man they would like to speak to.

He was in the area at the time the alleged assault is reported to have taken place and officers believe he could assist with their enquiries.

A spokesperson from Northumbria Police said: "The man, or anyone who knows who he is, should use the ‘Report’ page of the Northumbria Police website or call 101, quoting crime reference number 003303M/24."
