Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service crews tackle fire at Premier Waste Recycling Ltd on Pattinson Road, Monument Park in Washington.

The Control Room team at the Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call before 4am this Easter Sunday (Sunday, March 31), about a reported building fire at Premier Waste Recycling Ltd on Pattinson Road, Monument Park in Washington.

The Northern Echo: No one was harmed in the fire

A spokesperson for the fire crew said: “At 3.59am this morning our Control Room received a call about a reported building fire on Pattinson Road, Monument Park in Washington.

"At the height of the fire, five appliances inc. an Aerial Ladder Platform, and our Command Unit were in attendance.”

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service have revealed that a total of 38 firefighters and three officers were on-site during the incident at the waste recycling plant on Pattinson Industrial Estate.

They have also confirmed that there were no people involved in the fire and no one was harmed.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also said: “A big thank you goes out to all of our crews and TWFRS staff involved with the incident and the cooperation of the local community.”

Crews will remain on the scene until the fire and rescue service are satisfied the fire is fully extinguished and while any investigations that need to be carried out are completed.

Previously, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service asked residents to keep their windows and doors closed while they dealt with the fire, however as the fire is now scaling back no further safety advice is required for local residents.
