A man in his 40s has died after he was hit by a vehicle in the early hours of this morning as police continue to appeal for information and witnesses.

Police and emergency services were called to Great North Road in Jesmond, Newcastle, following reports that a person had been hurt in an incident at 3am today (Thursday March 28).

Police are now appealing for anyone with information about the collision to contact them.

Sergeant John Sanderson, of the Force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the man who has sadly lost his life in this tragic incident.

“We will offer his loved ones all of the support they need as they attempt to come to terms with the events of the last 24 hours.”

Sgt Sanderson added: “A full investigation has been launched into the circumstances of the incident and we are appealing to anyone who saw what happened to contact us.
