Firefighters have tackled a bedroom fire in a Darlington home this evening (Monday, March 25).

Emergency services were alerted to the fire at a terraced home in the town's Banklands Road, at about 6.20pm. 

A County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said two appliances were sent to the scene.

On-call Station Manager Craig Jewkes said: "This was a small bedroom fire, everybody got out safely and unhurt.

"It’s important to remember to have a working smoke alarm and to ensure it is tested.
