A person hit by a train on Monday (March 25) morning has been taken to hospital.
Police were called to Fellgate Metro at about 9.40am to reports of a casualty on the tracks at Fellgate metro station in South Tyneside.
Network Rail confirmed a person had been hit by a train.
Paramedics attended and the casualty was taken to hospital. Police said the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
A British Transport Police spokesperson has said: “Officers were called to Fellgate metro station at 9.43am today (25 March) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended and a person was taken to hospital. The incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
Metro and Northern services between Newcastle and Sunderland were suspended for about an hour while emergency crews attended the scene.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at Fellgate Metro Station in Jarrow at 9.43am this morning.
"We dispatched two ambulance crews, two crews from our Hazardous Area Response Team and a clinical team leader, and requested support from Great North Air Ambulance Service.
"One person has been taken to the RVI by road for further treatment."
