A North East pathologist who has carried out post-mortems in some of the region’s highest-profile deaths has been suspended pending a disciplinary matter.
Dr Nigel Cooper has been a Home Office Pathologist for 31 years and has produced post-mortem examinations in major trials and inquests, including those of murdered toddler Dwelaniyah Robinson this month and Raoul Moat.
The pathologist was suspended from his post earlier this month while an investigation into a “disciplinary matter” is carried out.
The reasons for that disciplinary investigation have not been disclosed.
A Home Office spokesperson said: “Dr Cooper was suspended from the Home Office Register of Forensic Pathologists on March 15, 2024. It would be inappropriate further to comment while an investigation is ongoing”.
