A man charged with assaulting emergency workers, criminal damage and two counts of grievous bodily harm at a garage in Newton Aycliffe appeared in court today.

Aron Mackinley, 25, was arrested after a seven-hour stand-off with police at the Esso garage on St Cuthbert's Way.

The 25-year-old, of no fixed abode, was remanded to Peterlee Magistrates’ Court this morning.

He did not enter any pleas.

He was remanded into custody and is next expected to appear at Durham Crown Court on April 26.

A spokesperson for Newton Aycliffe Police said: "A man has appeared in court after being charged affray, criminal damage, two counts of attempt grievous bodily harm and three counts of assault on an emergency worker.
