Police have confirmed a body was found on train tracks in South Tyneside on Thursday (March 21) evening.
Officers were called to East Boldon metro station shortly before 7.30pm yesterday where a person was found on the line.
Ambulance crews attended but person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Their identity is yet to be publicly confirmed by police and the death is not being treated as suspicious.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to East Boldon station shortly before 7.30pm yesterday Thursday following reports of a casualty on the tracks.
“Paramedics also attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
The line was closed with Metro services suspended from Pelaw to South Hylton, and Northern trains diverted through Durham and Darlington while police attended the scene.
Services resumed just before 9pm.
