The chairman of a Middlesbrough community council will stand trial in May after denying an allegation of assault.
Andrew Murphy-Brown is accused of assaulting a woman in Middlesbrough on December 17 last year.
At a hearing at Teesside Magistrates Court on Thursday, the 53-year-old, of Cranbrook in Marton, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He was granted unconditional bail and a trial date was set for May 29 at the magistrates’ court.
Mr Murphy-Brown is chairman of the Marton West Community Council and stood as a Conservative Party candidate for the Marton West ward in the Middlesbrough council elections last year.
