Seven train fare dodgers have been in court this week - charged with failing to pay the correct ticket fee - they have been fined over £3k collectively.

The following cases were heard at Teesside Magistrates' Court:

Jake Green, 27 of Acorn Street in Nottingham, was found guilty in his absence for travelling on a railway from Hartlepool to Horden without having previously paid the fare of £4.60 on Friday, July 14, 2023.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a compensation of £4.60, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.

A collection order was made, and the total balance is to be paid by 5 April 2024.

Emily James, 18, of North Avenue in Saltburn by the Sea, was found guilty in her absence for travelling on a railway from Darlington to Saltburn without having previously paid the fare of £9.90 on Thursday, August 31, 2023.

She was fined £220, ordered to pay a compensation of £9.90, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.

A collection order was made, and the total balance is to be paid by April 5, 2024.

David Jones, 35 of Rushpool Close in Redcar, was found guilty in his absence for travelling on a railway from Billingham to Stockton without having previously paid the fare of £3.60 on Tuesday, 5 September 2023.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a compensation of £3.60, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £150.

A collection order was made, and the total balance is to be paid by April 5, 2024.

Natasha Kelly, 33, of Tollesby Bridge in Coulby Newham, Middlesbrough, was found guilty of travelling on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £5.60 on August 23, 2023.

She was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, ordered to pay costs of £150 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and ordered to pay compensation of £5.60.

Yanzhe Li, 23, of Westgate Road in Newcastle Upon Tyne, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £19.70 on August 17, 2023.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, ordered to pay costs of £150 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and ordered to pay compensation of £19.70.

Paul Mellie, 26, of Catcote Road in Hartlepool, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £12.60 on August 22, 2023.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, ordered to pay costs of £150 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and ordered to pay compensation of £12.60.

Jayar Mustafa, 19, of Phillips House in Middlesbrough, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £16.80 on August 09, 2023.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, ordered to pay costs of £150 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and ordered to pay compensation of £16.80.

Callum Scott, 32, of Keats Walk in Gateshead, travelled on a railway without having previously paid the fare of £8.20 on August 31, 2023.

He was fined £220, ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £88, ordered to pay costs of £150 to the Crown Prosecution Service, and ordered to pay compensation of £8.20.
