A Met Office spokesperson said: "Breezy start with a few outbreaks of rain and drizzle, mainly over hills.
"These easing with sunny spells developing and feeling rather warm.
"Scattered showers also developing, however these mostly light, with just the odd heavier one possible. Maximum temperature 14 °C.
"Evening showers easing, however cloud gradually thickening from the southwest.
"Rain spreading north after midnight turning persistent and perhaps heavy at times. Hill fog likely across the Pennines."
