Computer generated images show how a revamped train station will look as work is set to start.

Eaglescliffe Station is set for a major refresh with a new footbridge to be installed, new car park, and new lifts.

Revised plans include the existing footbridge and access ramps being retained after they were initially set to be flattened, with new CGIs showing how both bridges will look at the station.

It comes as work is set to start ahead of an expected Summer 2025 completion date.

The “treacherous” disabled access at the station was investigated by the government following Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson’s struggle to commute from Teesside to London. She raised the issue in 2015.

Councillor Bob Cook, Leader of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council and Combined Authority Cabinet Member said: “Eaglescliffe is an important stop on the Tees Valley line and connects with major stations around the country.

“The new car park, which will be located on part of the Durham Lane site, complements the wider improvements to the station and I am delighted to see these improvements come to fruition.

“The planned improved transport links will be welcomed by rail travellers and residents across the Tees Valley and will help attract more businesses to the area.”

A station taxi office will be demolished and rebuilt with a new waiting shelter and ticket counter on the platform.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Eaglescliffe is a vital station on our network – connecting people locally but also offering a popular service to London.

“For far too long, using it has been far too difficult – and the effort required for many people to get to the far side platform has been unacceptable.

“This investment will make travelling from the station quicker, simpler and more straightforward.

“Its revamp also makes it a big draw for businesses looking to base themselves at Durham Lane Industrial Estate.

“We’re putting huge amounts of money into our railway stations for good reason – and when these projects are complete, local people will have the rail network they deserve.”
