Drivers in and around County Durham will have 8 National Highways road closures to watch out for this week.

But motorists will be able to take some solace in the fact that all of them are only expected to cause slight delays, of less than 10 minutes.

The latest expected works list, with notes from National Highways, shows that five closures already in place are expected to carry on this week:

  • A167, from 3pm November 24 2022 to 8pm March 18 2024, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M, junction 59 interchange, 24/7 Lane closure for investigation works for structures.
  • A66, from 8am February 5 to 4.30pm April 19, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Old Spittal Farm to Smallways, traffic signals and lane closures for technology works.
  • A19, from 8pm September 18 2023 to 5.30pm February 25 2025, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A19 north and southbound, A182 Cold Hesledon Interchange, carriageway and lane closures for maintenance works.

And a further seven closures will begin over the next two weeks:

  • A66, from 9pm March 11 to 5.30am March 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 eastbound and westbound, Little Burdon to Morton Palms, diversion route and signage for LA works.
  • A66, from 8pm March 13 to 6am April 3, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A66 Bowes to Coach and Horses eastbound and westbound, lane closures for inspection works.
  • A1(M), from 8pm March 16 to 6am March 17, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M southbound, junction 58 to junction 57, lane closure for vehicle safety fence repair.
  • A1(M), from 11pm March 18 to 6am March 20, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M northbound, junction 61 to junction 62, lane closure for Network Rail inspection works.
  • A1(M), from 11pm March 20 to 6am March 22, slight delays (under 10 minutes): A1M southbound, junction 62 to junction 61, lane closure for Network Rail inspection works.

National Highways is responsible for maintaining motorways and major A-roads, so closures of smaller roads will not be included in their schedule.
