A motorcyclist has pleaded guilty to causing the death of a pedestrian.

James Mitchell was arrested by officers after being released from hospital and was charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Steven Roberts, who was pushing a pedal cycle, died after a collision on the B6279 Haughton Road, near Bannatyne's, in Darlington, last February.

Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene on Saturday, February 11, 2023.

Mitchell, of Killinghall Street, Darlington, pleaded guilty during a short hearing at Teesside Crown Court.

The case against the 28-year-old was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be compiled and he will return to the same court to be sentenced on Friday, May 3.
