Work has begun to transform a key Darlington Road with over half a million pounds investment.

The work hopes to "transform" Victoria Road to boost economic growth as part of the Government's Levelling Up programme.

The work, beginning this month, aims to use the town's rail heritage to breathe new life into the area.

The project will focus on external improvements such as new solid timber doors, entrance tiling and railings.

New seating and planting will be put in place along the street to create a sense of arrival for new visitors to the town.

Currently, over half of property owners on the eastern end of Victoria Road have signed up for support. Anyone interested in the scheme is encouraged to get in touch with Darlington Borough Council.

Angela Howey, Towns Fund chair, said "We are delighted that this exciting project is starting and are confident that the changes being made will significantly improve the environment and the initial perceptions of people coming to Darlington, building on the town’s unique rail heritage.
