The Auckland Project in Bishop Auckland will has outlined its new events programme following its winter hiatus

Its new exhibition, Nature and the Ideal: Pioneers of British Landscape, opens in the Bishop Trevor Gallery at Auckland Castle on Wednesday (March 13).

The exhibit will highlight a collection of 18th-century landscapes and compositions – including works from Sir Joshua Reynolds, Thomas Gainsborough and Richard Wilson.

It will be available to guests to visit until June 23.

Chief executive officer Edward Perry said: “The Auckland Project is committed to the local area and bringing County Durham residents closer to historic art and important relics, and those part of our membership scheme are the first to hear about our exciting updates, especially as interest builds in Bishop Auckland and the North East more generally.” 

In the Spanish Gallery on Sunday (March17), ‘The Sound of Spain’ will echo through the gallery’s walls with live music performed on the Spanish guitar, for added ambience and theatre. 

A one-off performance by Royal Northern Sinfonia in the grand Throne Room at Auckland Castle will also take place on Saturday (March 30).

A spokesperson for the Auckland Project said: “Johanna Brahms romantic music sits at the heart of the performance, with a short interlude from Strauss’ opera Capriccio.
