Armed police swooped on a County Durham scrapyard after reports of several men threatening people with weapons today (Tuesday, March 12). 

Durham Police confirmed six men had been arrested following a "public order incident" in Craghead, near Stanley

Armed police and the dog unit converged on the scrapyard at Craghead Colliery Industrial Estate shortly after noon. 

No one is believed to have been injured.

A Durham Police spokesperson said: "Police were called just before 12.15pm today (March 12) following reports that several men were threatening people with weapons at a scrapyard at Craghead Colliery Industrial Estate.

"Nobody is believed to have been injured during the incident.

"The suspects and victims are believed to be known to each other.

The Northern Echo:

"Six men were arrested at the scene and have been taken to police custody, where they remain."

Officers are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and would like to speak to anyone with any information that could help their investigation.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Durham Police on 101, quoting incident number 163 of March 12.
