Two people have been arrested following a disturbance on a busy North East road that saw it closed off for an hour.
Pictures show a large emergency service presence which included an undercover police car on St Aidan's Terrace in New Herrington, Sunderland yesterday (March 10) following reports of an incident.
The road was closed off to motorists for about an hour as police dealt with the disturbance which resulted in two people being arrested on suspicion of affray and theft of a motor vehicle.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson: “Shortly after 11.30am on Sunday, March 10, we received a report of a disturbance near to Market Crescent in New Herrington.
“It was reported there had been a verbal altercation between a group of males in the street.
“Officers attended the scene where two males – aged 17 and 41 – were arrested in connection with the report on suspicion of affray and theft of a motor vehicle.
“They have since been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should use the ‘Report’ page of our website or call 101, quoting reference NP-20240310-0338.”
