Flood warnings are in place along the North East coast following persistent rain throughout the day.
The Environment Agency has said high tides and strong winds may cause large waves and spray overtopping on the coast this afternoon.
Tides will be at their highest between 2pm and 6.30pm with wave overtopping possible during these times.
Areas most likely to be affected are King Edwards Bay, Seaburn Lower Promenade, Whitley Sands Promenade, Seaham Harbour and Docks, the Port of Sunderland Harbour and Sunderland Marine Walk.
Alerts are also in place further down the coastline including Hartlepool, Seaton Carew, Redcar, Saltburn by the Sea, Skinningrove and Cowbar.

The Government website said: “We are closely monitoring the situation.
“Please be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”
Flood alerts are also in place for the Wear estuary from Lamb Bridge at Chester-le-street to the North Sea coast.
