A first-of-its-kind cabaret variety show is set to treat visitors to a night of unforgettable performances and live theatrics at its launch this month - here are all the details.

Glass Cage Cabaret, which has been named by its creators as Sunderland's only cabaret club is set to launch on March 23 with its first performance at Wearside Masonic Temple on Burdon Road.

The show is set to feature eight talented artists showcasing their dancing, cabaret, singing, rope, silks and drag skills in a three-hour "immersive experience".

The woman behind the company, Autumn Conlin, 28, has been training in aerial and burlesque performance since she was 18, and explained that starting the show once felt like a "pipe dream".

She said: "I always felt like I had to move away from Sunderland to pursue that kind of career, and I didn't want to. I didn't want to leave my friends and family here.

"After Covid, I just decided that I wanted to create something like this for the city - because there just is nothing currently like this in Sunderland.

"I realised that it's now or never."

Autumn, 28, who also works in marketing, has worked alongside collaborator and fellow performer Emma Bloomfield who in the process of creating the show went through 50 artist applications.

Just a few names who will take to the stage include: Lucy Phurr, Trixie Blue, Ebony Silk, Emma Rose, Autumn Ruth, Carmen Silk, Matt Grabara, Sian Francis and Catherine Muckle.

She said: "I want to make people smile because I just don't think there has been much of it recently with the pandemic and the state of the world.

"I want this place to be somewhere that people can leave the world outside and give them a reason to smile for a bit."

Should the first performance go to plan, Autumn hopes the group could make the show a weekly gig as they dream one day of having a permanent venue.

She added: "We also hope one day we can have themed shows like at Halloween and Christmas, but this time we want to show off our signature styles.

"The performers are going to give the audience a taste of who they are and what they can do."

With the event just weeks away, Autumn and her team are experiencing mixed emotions as they prepare for the big night.

She said: "I am very nervous, but I'm also very much looking forward to it. It's going to be a fantastic night.

"The acts we have managed to get are just absolutely incredible. I was overwhelmed by their applications and their talent and blown away that they wan to be a part of my little show."
