A Met Office spokesperson said: "A rather cloudy start with some outbreaks of light rain or drizzle. Some breaks in the cloud will develop throughout the day, especially in the south allowing some brighter spells to develop.
"Feeling chilly, especially in the brisk easterly breeze. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
"Staying generally cloudy, but largely dry for most. Some patchy light rain is possible, particularly across the Pennines. Remaining breezy, but for most staying frost free."
