Two people have been taken to hospital after a crash on a busy Darlington road yesterday (Wednesday, March 6).

Emergency services were alerted to the incident on the A68 West Auckland Road at its junction with Auckland Oval, in Darlington at 3.40pm.

Motorists reported gridlock in both directions, while police and ambulance service dealt with the incident. 

Two people were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of the A68 and Auckland Oval in Darlington at 3.41pm this afternoon (6 March).

"We dispatched one ambulance crew and a clinical team leader and transported two patients to Darlington Memorial Hospital."

A spokesperson for Durham Police: "Police were called at 3.40pm yesterday (March 6) to a two-vehicle collision on West Auckland Road, in Darlington, at the junction with Auckland Oval."
