PLANS have been submitted to North Yorkshire Council by the owners of a "failing" village pub who want to convert it into a home.

The plans relate to the Dog and Gun Inn, in Carlton Road, Carlton Miniott, near Thirsk, and also include the removal of a rear extension.

According to a planning statement prepared on behalf of the applicant by GA Associates, the project aims to "redevelop a failing single-use public house, to deliver a high-quality family home within a sustainable location."

It states: "The pub building is a terrace two-storey property with a traditional rendered finish beneath a pitched slate roof.

"The windows are white UPVC double-glazed throughout. The site is situated in a highly accessible location, within close proximity to the local services and amenities in Thirsk.

"The marketing report confirms that the property last operated on a profit-making basis over a year prior to the submission of this application, with the pub running on a charitable basis for a period to protect the asset from dereliction."
